Commodore’s Comments

The Holiday Party again was a great success.  We had 26 attendees and fun was had by all.  Congratulations go to all the racing winners for the year.  James Harvey is not only the Race Chairperson, but won top honors.

Special thanks go to Jo Ann Sedgwick who worked hard all season to make our racing association with Silver Gate most successful.  It is fitting that she received the Hot Shot award for 2007.  You can see it on display in the SGCA throphy case.

Please note the above Bridge and Chairs.  This year Larry and Brad have upped to help bring more events to the Association.

Please plan to get your 2008 dues in soon.

Race Chair Report for January 2008

The San Diego Catalina Association concluded the 2007 season with the December Holiday and Awards Party at Silver Gate Yacht Club. I know at the table I was sitting at the Escape Team was making plans for the 2008 season. I think all the teams had a fun season. No serious damage that I am aware of. We had four boats take a win. This was the season of the Catalina 34’s with 10 wins in 12 races. The other two races were won by a 36 tall rig and a 30ft Catalina. The results for the season, Escape in first place followed by Schatzsea and in third Mis-Behave ll.

I think the 2008 race season should be a lot of fun. We have a 13 race schedule. I would like some feed back on if we should have two throw out races instead of the one we had in 2007. Also some feedback on racing with CRA in the Coronado race on September 13th. We tried it this season and I think it basically worked. There was a delay from CRA in getting out the SI’s. They were having some issues with Homeland Security and finally had to change the course to Mission Bay and back. We did have 4 boats enter.

Also with a 13 race schedule we will need people to step up and volunteer for some race committee work. Remember you get third place points and it is a good chance to learn what it takes to put on a race. Without our RC boat and volunteers we don’t have much of a race. Even some of non racers could volunteer and have a good time with Jo Ann and make some new friends.

We have had some interest in our club from Fleet 7 in Mission Bay. They are club of Catalina 25’s, 250’s and Capri 25’s. There has been some talk of them doing some of our races this season. That should add some more excitement to our races.

Before I sign off I would like to congratulate Cleve Hardaker for his 7th place overall in the Hot Rum Series. He finished right behind Dennis Conner in Stars and Stripes (CM60) with his Catalina 30 Sojourn. Who do you think got the most bang for the buck?

Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season. See you on the race course.

James Harvey

SDCaTA Race Chairman

TEAM ESCAPE

Hey guys and gals,

Time to think about the 2008 NOOD Regatta.

We’ll need 6 boats to make a fleet.

I’m going to see if the fleet in Long Beach is interested in coming down as well.

I don’t have an e-mail for Rich Freeman from Ravens Dream, but if any of you have his contact info, send it to me.

Are you guys in for 2008?

Thanks,

Brad

P.S. We have the option of racing 2 or 3 days. I told them 3 for now, but can go either way. Let me know your preference.

We also want to invite the 34’s to the NOODs this year.  How about it?
