Commodore’s Comments

Are you enjoying the weather lately?  Does it feel like your back in the Midwest or someplace north?  Well, come and join us Wednesday for Don Whitlow from NOAA’s presentation.  Maybe we can get some incite into when we will be warming up.

I am excited to say that for the third year in a row, we will have six boats in the NOODs.  We will be racing on Saturday and Sunday.  There are two races on each day.

Also, please note that we have eight new members so far this year.  My congratulations to Debbie Willis on getting membership going so good.  The new roster will soon be out so that we can all get in contact with our fellow members.  Please pass the word to your Catalina neighbors about our group.  It would be good to get some 27s, 25s and 22s into the club this year.

See you all Wednesday

Dan G.

TEAM ESCAPE Race report for March

On Saturday the 23rd we finally got off our first race of the season with the President’s Day Race. We had a small field with 5 Catalina Association boats and two SGYC boats. First overall in the combined fleet was Houn Dawg. In the SDCaTA fleet Escape was first with Mis-Behave ll second and 17 seconds later Sabbatical. In fourth was Inspiration and rounding out the fleet was  Shooting Star lll. We missed Cherimarie, Schatzsea and Isle Run racing with us. We delayed our start for an hour because of the boats starting the San Diego to Puerto Vallarta race. It was quite a thrill watching a boat like Magnitude 80 start.

In other race news Brad on Cherimarie finished 5th out of 9 boats in the Cabrillo lll race. In the first SBC race down in South Bay Escape finished in 2nd place. After starting dead last to finish second to the two time series champ was fun. Isle Run finished 3rd and Cherimarie finished in 4th. In the second race Isle Run was 2nd Escape 3rd by 24 seconds and 7th was Cherimarie.

It looks like the Catalina 36 fleet will be racing in the NOODS. There are 6 boats entered. It should be a fun competition.

I would like to thank our race committee for a great job. Thanks to the Dekkers for the use of their boat Sea Trakker.

Also I would like to thank Steve Rock from Fiddler’s Green. Steve has been very generous with his dinner coupons. If you need a good place to eat stop in at Fiddler’s Green on Shelter Island.

Remember every day sailing adds a day to your life.
